Alternative to the Courts

The Arbitration Centre of the Autonomous University of Lisbon (CAUAL) was authorised by Ministerial Order no. 8294/97 of 29 September 1997.

CAUAL seeks to resolve conflicts through alternative means to those practised in the courts: Mediation, Conciliation, Negotiation and Arbitration. It deals with conflicts from a wide range of areas: consumer, labour, neighbourhood, health services, family, sports, among others. It has a pool of reputable conflict mediators, certified by the Ministry of Justice.
